Content Curation Tools: The Ultimate List

For content marketers, content curation is integral to online strategy. Effective curation helps position you as a thought leader in your space, and is an economical way to maintain a consistent publishing schedule of quality content. But manually trying to find the most relevant content in a given industry and then publishing it across multiple channels can be time-consuming. To curate effectively thus requires automation. This ultimate list of content curation software includes both business-grade and personal curation tools for hobbyist or organizational purposes.

content curation tools map

Curata defines content curation as when an individual (or team) consistently finds, organizes, annotates, and shares the most relevant and highest quality digital content on a specific topic for their target market. Curation is a great way to support a created content strategy, publish content consistently, and keep track of your favorite information sources. Enlightened content marketers use a content mix that is only 65% created, with the remainder being 25% curated and 10% syndicated.

The Purpose of This List

This map was constructed to help you or your organization navigate the growing world of curation and find a tool that best fits your content needs. If you’re all caught up on The Ultimate Content Marketing Tools List, then you already know the content marketing tools universe is vast—and expanding.

Marketing technology is constantly providing marketers with simpler solutions for publishing higher quality, more relevant content. Whether you’re one of the 75 percent of marketers increasing content investment this year, or you’re just looking for a tool to help keep track of news and social media, this list cuts through the curation clutter to make sense of what differentiates each application, service, and platform.

Pocket Social is another great tool (www.pocketsocial.co.uk); gives you control over what’s being posted on your social media platforms. It finds content for you, and then you choose whether you want it posted or not. Gives a higher degree of autonomy than other social media automation tools out there.

Interesting to see Pinterest in this list, though – not the first that comes to find when I think of ‘content curation’, but I love using it.

Have you guys looked at Right Intel? (www.rightintel.com)

  • What a great list of CC tools. I’ve had to back the # of content discovery, curation and syndication tools and processes to get the job done. Buzzsumo, Feedly and Scoop.it shows me how “popular” an article, video, infographic or Slideshare Deck is by the # of social shares the content has gotten. As we all know, simply sharing great content is not enough. Properly framing and formatting and adding a CTA to the shared content is what most reader’s want and appreciate from your curation efforts – right?

  • Maria Subbotina

It seems like you forgot LikeHack, a very cool thing for curation and social media publishing.

  • WOW! Awesome list. Just what I needed. Thank you for putting it all in one location, bookmarking it now. http://atlanta24hourtowing.com

  • Laura

Yes crowdynews. The content curation tool for publishers and editiors. Pls check http://www.crowdynews.com. It works great. I’m perhaps a little biased 🙂 as I work there as well. We have many great examples to show. Just let me know.

  • Another Content Software tool is ICC Express. I use it a lot. http://www.iccexpress.net/

  • James

Try out LinkHubb.com! Its a great tool to curate content in one place

    • Allison Maloney

UpContent (upcontent.com) is a curation tool that just launched – you can get it through Hootsuite. It’s a pretty powerful tool with some unique filters options you don’t find in other tools. You can search blogs, news sites, video sites and social sites for content – and then sort results by relevance and recency, and then also by shareability (predicts the propensity for a specific content piece to be shared and interesting to an audience) or influence (influence is based on the authority of the author or website it’s coming from). http://appdirectory.hootsuite.com/185/upcontent

The goal with Shareability and Influence is to quickly pinpoint the content you want to share with an audience, rather than having to read through bunches of results to find the perfect piece of content.

I’m the VP of Marketing for the developer company, Community Elf. It’s a great tool and we’re looking for users to try it out and give us feedback! I’m happy to answer questions or field feedback (amaloney@communityelf.com). We only have a free plan available currently, and if you install the UpContent Hootsuite app during March, we are offering a free topic that will be added to your account for life.

  • Allison Maloney

UpContent is a new content curation tool that just launched March 11th as a Hootsuite App. The tool is differentiated in the market through the introduction of two new filters – Shareability and Influence – that, with the use of Relevance and Recency, enable users to more quickly pinpoint the content they want and need to share with their audiences.

Shareability predicts and finds the content that has the best chance of being shared
by your audience. Influence serves content that was created by thought leaders and/or by the individuals/brands that people within an industry listen to.

    Website: Upcontent.com
    Hootsuite App: http://appdirectory.hootsuite.com/185/upcontent

In later spring, there will be a website-based application launched on upcontent.com, right now it’s only available through Hootsuite.

Anyone that installs the free UpContent Hootsuite app during March will get an extra topic added to their account for life. It’s worth it to try it out!

I am the head of marketing for the developer company, Community Elf. I am happy to chat about the tool or connect you to our CEO if you want to discuss anything! amaloney@communityelf.com.

  • Thanks Allison!

    • Allison Maloney

Did you have a chance to check out the tool? Let me know if you have any questions or feedback! You can email me: amaloney@upcontent.com.

Well, the only thing i need is a tool to post to Instagram without the Instagram app itself. AS i always switch the computers I need a web-based one. So far i only found one tool suitable for my needs – zengram.net. It’s mainly an automation service, but PC posting is made easy and comfortable, so i got that going for me, which is nice.

Very Nice List. I really like the short simple description of each tool. It looks like you have tried each and every one of them. Of course it lacks hierarchy. 61 items in a single list is too many. You should consider moving this list to my hierarchical directory. Blogory.org. But I do like your list, so I linked to it from:

    http://blogory.org/content-curation-tools

Or at least add me to your list.

Blogory.org/python is a good place to start. It is now the world’s largest, fastest growing,
    best organized python directory.

Hi Meg, thanks for this great list.
May I add Quuu.com to your list? This isn’t a tool to bookmark and organize content curation but a service that delivers hand made curated content on various topics.
Plugged it with Buffer and you can tweet 2 very good quality contents per day for free on you niche.

That is a helpful list! Lots of new tools for me. I already use couple of them. Need explore more. Another tool that I use and may be of help for many others is a newish WordPress plugin called Simple Link Directory. Nice to curate useful links. Here is the link if anyone is interested to give it a try as well: https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-link-directory/

  • Content curation has grown drastically and new tools are invented day by day. But few makes it to the top of the list and the way you presented it is the best order. I have personally started to use curata after reading this article. Curata has infinite possibilities. I would opt in for it.

Nice list Meg, but i see that quite a few platforms are dead already.

Allow me to introduce https://contentstudio.io as a content discovery, curation and publishing, and automation platform. It gives you the flexibility to quickly discover trending content in any niche or market which can be sorted by recency, trending or engagement. You can distribute content to multiple blogging and social channels such as WordPress, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin and Instagram (coming soon).

Using Contentstudio.io, you can even fully automate your social media channels by setting up your own rules and it will look as human/natural as possible.

ContentStudio.io is dead and not refunding customers under their 30 day money back guarantee. They’ve gone silent since end of February 2017.

Hey 🙂 great list. Can I also suggest Quuu (quuu.co)? It’s a curation service designed specifically for social media, and integrates with Buffer/Hubspot to provide daily suggestions for you.

  • Noelle Williamson

I didn’t see refind.com in your list. Refind is fairly new so it may not have been around when you posted.
