Content Marketing Jobs Have More Than Tripled


Curata & LinkedIn Announce The Ultimate Guide to a Content Marketing Career Boston, MA, November 2 - Curata and LinkedIn today announced the release of their joint eBook: The Ultimate Guide to a Content Marketing Career, packed full of original data, research and analysis for marketers and aspiring content marketers, such as journalists considering a career change. It outlines the state of the content marketing sector today, the qualifications and capabilities required by the sector, and best practices for great content marketing.

Curata surveyed over 1,000 marketers primarily in America, while LinkedIn analyzed data from its 100+ million American member profiles to tap the pulse of the sector. The companies reveal that in 2016, 75 percent of companies are “increasing” or “significantly increasing” investment in content marketing over the coming year because of its efficacy in driving leads and revenue.

The eBook also includes interviews with content marketing experts Ann Handley, the Chief Content Officer of MarketingProfs; Joe Pulizzi, the founder of the Content Marketing Institute; and Joe Chernov, Vice President of Marketing at InsightSquared.

  • 41 percent of marketers surveyed say the most common skill-set missing from content marketing teams is content creation; specifically, writing, editing and copywriting skills.
  • 70 percent of marketers plan to produce even more content this year than the last.
  • 43 percent of companies surveyed are increasing staff levels.
  • There were 19,156 content marketing jobs available on LinkedIn in fall 2016.
  • Content marketing jobs are most common in five major cities: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

The nearly 5,000 word eBook reveals, amongst other insights, the importance of having a social media presence. A content marketer looking for a job who lacked their own social media profile, “probably wouldn’t make it through the initial review,” said Joe Pulizzi. “We scrutinize social media presence before actually reaching out to the possibles.”
